A lamp powered by dog poo is lighting up one of the UK's iconic scenic hills.

Dog owners walking along the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire are able to dispose of their pet's faeces in the base of a street lamp atop the hill.

Inside the lamp, the poo is converted into methane to power the lamp.

The lamp's bio-digester uses 10 bags of poo every two hours.

Local resident Brian Harper created the lamp after noticing a similar invention in Boston, USA.

"They aren't carrying [the poo] away - they can see dog poo is very useful and the light helps them if they're coming down of the hill later in the evening."
