Hundreds of people have come down with gastro on a cruise liner round trip between Brisbane and New Zealand.

During the two week tour, Sea Princess passengers visited Fiordland National Park, Dunedin, Akaroa, Wellington, Napier, Tauranga and Auckland.

Prices range from $2,000 to $7,600 NZD, but for many passengers the luxury trip was less than idyllic.

Queensland Health told ABC at least 200 passengers have contracted norovirus, the symptoms of which include vomiting and diarrhea.

"Sanitation procedures and outbreak control measures have been implemented and the vessel is expected to undergo further comprehensive cleaning while in Brisbane," it said.

The vessel returned to Brisbane on Thursday.
