A Toronto animal shelter is advertising for what may be any volunteer's dream job.

Toronto Animal Services currently advertising the role of "rabbit/cat cuddling volunteer" in the local animal shelters.

"Volunteers play with the cats and rabbits in the shelters to help with their socialisation skills," the ad said.

"This is a rewarding experience for the volunteer, but also crucial to the physical and mental well-being of the animals in our care, and helps them get adopted."

Toronto Animal Services do ask volunteers to commit to a particular time each week, so it may be hard to commute over from New Zealand, but there are opportunities for shelter cuddles in New Zealand too.

Among the important jobs of cleaning and feeding the animals, some volunteer roles at the SPCA New Zealand can also involve helping socialise the animals, which may include petting or playing with them.
