Armed men rampage through Samoa's Salelologa Market

Terrifying footage has emerged showing young men armed with weapons on a destructive rampage through Salelologa Market on Savaii, Samoa.

The disturbing video shows the group intimidating bystanders as they flip tables. One of the men brandishes a rifle, while others carry weapons for hand-to-hand combat.

Local media say the confrontation came as part of a village war, apparently between the rival villagers of Salelologa and Salelavalu.

On Monday, public roads were blocked as the groups threw stones.

Moana-Liza Gibson says she heard the violence ahead of her as she waited with commuters affected by the road blocks.

"Can hear gun shots up ahead. Cars line the road. The swearing is just so chilling. I'm trembling just writing this," she told The Samoa Planet.

Police Commissioner Sua Fuiavailiili Egon Keil says the situation has been brought under control.

"We have unconfirmed exchange of gunfire with no injuries reported," he told media.

"We can confirm that peace talks are being held this morning with the police as mediators."
