Golden labrador becomes adopted father to nine orphaned ducklings

A golden labrador has become an unlikely parent to a group of ducklings after they were found wandering the grounds of an English castle without their mother.

Fred from Mountfitchet Castle has taken on the care of all nine ducklings since they were discovered by staff at the castle on Thursday (local time).

"The team were very worried about the ducklings but Fred, a 10-year-old Labrador, immediately took to them and has been babysitting ever since," a post on the Moutfitchet Castle Facebook page said.

His paternal nature did not go unnoticed, and Fred was soon shared on the Twitter parody account Dog Rates, where photos of him and his babies received over 75,000 likes.

"This is Fred. He lives in an English castle with his nine fluffy children. Says being a single father is sometimes challenging, but always worth it," the account wrote.

"13/10 for all."
