14yo caught drink driving in Masterton

A drunk 14-year-old boy has been caught out by a police drink-driving checkpoint in Masterton.

The boy blew 135mcg per litre of breath when stopped. The limit for drivers under 20 is zero.

"Over the school holidays, it is important that parents know what their children are up to," said Wellington District road policing manager Inspector Mike Wright.

"This young man put not just himself but many other people at risk."

The vehicle was impounded and the boy referred to Youth Aid.

Police stopped 1028 motorists in the overnight blitz across the town and two others were facing drink-driving charges.
