It was an assured performance on the pitch - but police say the behaviour of most fans off it during Saturday night's All Blacks Test in Wellington was generally good as well, with just one arrest at Westpac Stadium and 14 downtown.

A man was taken into custody for disorderly behaviour during the match, while 19 people were evicted from the ground as a result of intoxication.

Four others were denied entry into the ground due to heavy drinking in the lead-up to the match, which saw the All Blacks retain the Bledisloe Cup after downing the Wallabies 29-9 in front of a sell-out crowd.

Fourteen people were arrested after the game for alcohol-related offending - many for fighting in the CBD and around Courtenay Pl - but police say they are "generally pleased" with the behaviour of fans at the match.

Operation Commander Inspector Neil Banks said the game attracted a large number of people to the city, which made things a bit more hectic than usual.

"It was a busy night in Wellington - not just at Westpac Stadium, but also at bars showing the game, and following the match and into the early hours of the morning," he said.

"Police were prepared, with additional staff who were highly visible in the entertainment areas of the capital.

"We appreciate those who were considerate and responsible and contributed to what was a fun and enjoyable night for many," Insp Banks said.
