MediaWorks takes out key radio awards

MediaWorks has grabbed some key awards this evening at the 2016 NZ Radio Awards, with Paul Henry taking home the Sir Paul Holmes Broadcaster of the Year Award, as well as Best Talk Presenter.

In the news category, RadioLIVE won a number of awards. Hillary Barry was named joint Best Newsreader. Lloyd Burr was named Best Journalist and Best Team Coverage of a News Story was awarded to the RadioLIVE News and Drive teams for their coverage of Jonah Lomu's sudden death.

It was also a successful award ceremony for MediaWorks' music brands, with MoreFM, the Edge, and the Rock coming out on top.

MoreFM Canterbury won Station of the Year, while the wider station was also awarded Best Marketing Campaign for Dancing with the Stars promotion, and Best Single Market Station Promotion for #SchoolofEd.

MoreFM's Christian Boston was named Best Content Director.

The Edge's Jay Jay, Mike and Dom won Best Music Breakfast Show, while the Edge also won Best Network Station Promotion, Best Radio Website, Best Station Imaging and Best Effective Commercial for the Spookers Halloween 'It's Your Call joint' campaign with Mai FM.

For the second time the Rock won multiple awards with Drive show Jono and Ben -- Best Music Non-Breakfast Hosts, Best Video, Best Single Station Client Campaign, as well as being jointly-awarded Best Station Imaging.

MediaWorks Radio CEO Wendy Palmer said she was unbelievably proud of all the company's winners and finalists.

"We're just so fortunate to have such great talent. It's their work that underpins the record breaking commercial success of the past year, and it's so great to see them recognised by the industry," she said.

"A special mention to Paul Henry and his deserving win of Best Talk Presenter, as well as the coveted Sir Paul Holmes Broadcaster of the Year Award. It shows the hard work that has gone into making New Zealand's first truly multi-platform programme has paid off."
