A dozen teenagers hurled rocks at an Auckland train after being thrown off for being abusive on Friday night.

Both girls and boys were part of the group, who shoved a Māori Warden when they were asked to leave for being disorderly.

After they were kicked off the train at Manurewa East the teens threw rocks at the train, smashing part of the front windscreen.

Police say the teens ran away after the rocks were thrown and couldn't be found when officers searched the area.

No one was injured in the incident, an Auckland Transport spokesperson says.

Auckland Transport will be examining CCTV footage to try and identify the teenagers.
