Age Concern welcomes law change

Age Concern is welcoming a law change which offers the elderly more protection against abuse.

It's now an offence to stay silent when a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of death, grievous bodily harm or sexual assault.

Age Concern's National President Liz Baxendine is thrilled.

"It gives agencies greater ability to hold individuals to account for harming the most vulnerable in our community," she says.

"And of course that will mean children, but it also means older people."

Ms Baxendine says two cases of elderly abuse are reported to Age Concern each day.
