Allegations Scott Guy killer had accomplice

New allegations around the Scott Guy murder case have been made that his killer had an accomplice and that police didn't obtain crucial phone data.

A team of private investigators has been working on the cold case since Mr Guy's brother-in-law, Ewen MacDonald, was acquitted.

Four years on, Mr Guy's presence is still strong in his parents' home.

"Sometimes I just want to touch his skin and know can't," says mother Jo Guy.

There's been no justice, and now there are fresh allegations his killer had help.

Since their former son-in-law, MacDonald, was acquitted of Mr Guy's murder, a team of private investigators has been on the case, commissioned by widow Kylee.

3 News has confirmed the team has information suggesting the killer had an accomplice and that police failed to obtain crucial raw phone data.

"If that's right they need to be talking to the police," says father Bryan Guy. "There's no good in two teams working against each other."

The investigators say the phone data police used was missing some caller details and text messages on the eve and day of his killing. The team has now traced all unidentified numbers and there are no mystery callers, but the investigators say they've uncovered enough to warrant a fresh investigation.

Police told 3 News they thoroughly investigated all information provided to them and that, while the case is open, they hadn't been approached by the private investigators with new allegations. The question of an accomplice they said was speculative and not up for discussion.

Macdonald, who is behind bars for vandalising Scott and Kylee Guys' old house and other crimes, will face the Parole Board for the third time in November.
