Another bunny burglary caught on camera in west Auckland

More CCTV footage has emerged showing a bunny being stolen from a property in west Auckland - just one more example of a growing problem in the area.

In the video, the thief is captured committing the late-night crime, bending down to pick up the animal from its enclosure.

The burglaries were first brought to rabbit owners' attention last week, when police revealed 15 bunnies had been taken from backyards in Blockhouse Bay, Mount Albert and Massey.

One breeder told Newshub that 10 rabbits had been stolen from her in early morning raids, and has now installed CCTV cameras an padlocks in an effort to stop the offending.

Bunnies are worth up to $50 each.

Police have told breeders and rabbit owners to take security measures, and are also asking pet shops to be on alert for suspicious behaviour.
