Police have captured and charged a man after he allegedly robbed a pharmacy armed with a knife, thanks to the public’s help.
The 45-year-old Dunedin man tied up three pharmacy workers with tape while he robbed the store, the Otago Daily Times reported.
But while he was tying the staff up, a member of the public noticed the incident from the outside and immediately called police.
When officers arrived on the scene, the public pointed them in the direction of the man’s escape.
Detective Sergeant Brett Roberts said the man was pepper-sprayed and taken into custody. He has since been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.
“We’re absolutely pleased the man was caught,” Det Sgt Robers told the Otago Daily Times.
"This robbery was solved by members of the public getting involved and reporting the activity to police.”
Staff at the pharmacy were not harmed and managed to free themselves from the tape.
