Police are searching for a Coromandel man they are describing as "armed and dangerous".
Rameka Wikaira, 26, is wanted in relation to recent burglaries and thefts in the Thames area and for breaching his prison release conditions.
Police searched a Currie St address at around 1pm on Saturday afternoon and say they are still looking for Wikaira.
He is described as around 171cm tall and of medium to thin build.
"As he may have stolen firearms on him, the Armed Offenders Squad attended the scene during the search yesterday afternoon," says Sergeant Russell Richards.
"We would like to make it clear to friends and associates of his, there may be charges for anyone caught assisting him with avoiding police."
Anyone with any information on Wikaira's whereabouts is asked to call police on 111 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
