Hamilton police have arrested a man after a woman was shot early on Saturday morning.
Police were called to the incident just before 4am to find the woman with moderate injuries from the pistol shot.
"We take the unlawful possession of any firearm seriously," Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall said.
"We are thankful that this incident did not result in much more serious injuries."
The 31-year-old man is appearing in Hamilton District Court on Saturday, charged with unlawful possession of a pistol and wounding.
The victim and alleged offender know each other, police say.
"We wish to remind members of the public that if you suspect family harm is occurring in a neighbour, friend or loved one’s home, please ask the potential victims if they need help," Snr Sgt Keall said.
"If you're not in a position to do this, contact police straight away."
