Auckland Council won't appeal port case

Auckland Council has decided not to appeal a court judgment blocking work on the city's port expansion.

The court ruled Ports of Auckland should not have gone ahead with the development of Bledisloe Wharf without properly consulting the public.

"We received the court's decision on Friday and, after discussions with my fellow councillors, we agree that we accept this judgement and will not appeal the decision," says Auckland Mayor Len Brown.

"The High Court didn't criticise the council's consenting process but did identify two technical errors of law were made in the consenting decisions."

Consent for the project has been set aside and will have to be sought again for the project to restart.
