Auckland trains delayed by emergency at Middlemore

There were significant delays to Auckland trains this evening after a pedestrian was hit by a train at Middlemore station -- the second emergency incident on the network today.

St John Ambulance took one person to hospital in a critical condition.

Auckland Transport said the Southern and Eastern lines were running at a reduced frequency" as a result of the incident, which it first tweeted about at 6:15pm.

Buses were accepting rail passengers, but replacement rail buses were "not available" to ease the load.

The Onehunga line was cleared shortly after 7:30pm but there would still be delays on all lines, Auckland Transport said.

A person died after being hit by a train at Glen Innes station on the Eastern Line at about 7am on Tuesday.
