The quick actions of the Christchurch Fire Service has contained a large blaze in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A courier driver spotted the fire at the Fulton Hogan Building on Halswell Junction Road at around 3:30am and called 111.

Shift Manager Brent Dunn praised the quick response from the fire service, saying they "got on top of it quickly".

While the shed in question was severely damaged, Mr Dunn said "it could have been worse".

No one was injured in the blaze and it is not being treated as suspicious.

"Not suspicious at this stage nor has a fire investigator been called, and the crews have handed over to the Fulton Hogan staff who are now on site," Mr Dunn said.

One crew is still at the scene.
