A fire has flared up in some scrub beside State Highway One near Meremere.
The Fire Service was alerted to the blaze, which is covering an area of approximately 500sqm, at 2pm this afternoon.
A witness says there is a lot of smoke.
Twenty-five firefighters are working to get it under control, with the fire believed to be out completely by 4pm.
Three fire engines, two tankers and three police cars are at the scene.
