Body discovered inside cardboard bale at Hamilton plant

Waikato police say they are not treating the discovery of a body in a cardboard bale at a processing plant in Hamilton as a workplace accident.

A man's body was discovered on Tuesday morning at the OJI Fibre Solutions plant on Frankton's Pukeko St.

Police are working to identify the body and how the man came to be in the bale.

They say a post-mortem examination will be carried out on Wednesday morning, and more information will be provided in the afternoon.

Police will not confirm if it is being treated as homicide and are not commenting further at this stage.

OJI Fibre Solutions produces market pulp, paper and fibre based packaging.

It was owned by Carter Holt Harvey until 2014, and employs 1800 people across New Zealand. They are now owned by a Tokyo based company.
