The body that was found in a burning car north of Blenheim is not suspicious.
The car was found on the side of State Highway 1 in Tuamarina around 8:30am on Sunday.
Police believed the incident was likely to have been an "unfortunate incident".
The body is in the process of being identified and the death has been referred to the coroner.
