Burdett brother: Release Teina Pora

The brother of murder victim Susan Burdett wants the man convicted of killing her freed from jail.

Teina Pora has had his application for bail denied ahead of his Privy Council Appeal, with the High Court saying it does not have the jurisdiction to grant it.

But Jim Burdett hopes he gets parole at his hearing on Monday.

"The only reason he's still in jail is because he wouldn't admit guilt," says Mr Burdett. "He would have been release by now if he hadn't. It seems clear why he hasn't admitted guilt, and that was because he wasn't guilty. I think releasing him would be both just and compassionate."

Pora has spent 21 years in prison for the rape and murder of Ms Burdett, but there are doubts over his convictions.
