Northland campgrounds are worried that the remnants of tropical Cyclone Evan may have an impact on their busiest season.

Forecasts suggest the deep low will hit Auckland, the Coromandel and Northland on Christmas Eve, bringing heavy rain and winds.

Campground operators say they're disappointed in the Christmas forecast but have high hopes for New Years.

The remnants of tropical cyclone Evan are forecast to hit Auckland, the Coromadel and Northland on Christhmas eve, resulting in heavy rain and winds.

Paihia's Waterfront Campground owner Adrian Vanbarneveld believes it will impact on bookings but says the weather at New Years is most important.

The rain is expected to ease by Christmas Day - but won't have completely
cleared.

Forecasters say Canterbury and the Wairarapa are expected to have the best
weather in the country come Christmas day.
