A series of burglaries of under-construction homes has Canterbury police concerned.
Appliances and furnishings from unfinished homes have been targeted by burglars in Christchurch, with police saying these items are readily traded, sold online or transferred in crime rings.
While it may seem like you're snagging a good bargain, police say purchasing new items such as appliances and household fittings from social media sites at very cheap prices can often be too good to be true.
It's possible that these cheap items may be stolen - and knowing something is stolen, or purchasing it, may get you charged with receiving stolen property.
"We want to make it as difficult as possible for criminals to steal items in the first place, and secondly make it difficult to sell these items by marking them with the builder/building company's details," said Detective Sergeant Damon Wells.
