A caravan being towed by a 4WD in Lindis Pass has flipped after reportedly fishtailing.

Police were called to the scene around 11:20am on Friday to find the single-vehicle accident, which was "well off" the road when they arrived.

The car was driving north along State Highway 8.

Newshub understands the owner had been living in the caravan and touring around New Zealand.

A police spokesperson said a tow truck had been organised to help move the caravan.

There were no reported injuries.
