Maori Television has confirmed production manager Carol Hirschfeld is leaving the station for Radio New Zealand, as a round of restructuring at the television broadcaster gets underway.

In September Maori TV announced Ms Hirschfeld's executive role had been changed to a head of department role, an apparent demotion.

Ms Hirschfeld will take up a position as head of content at Radio New Zealand.

Today Maori TV chief executive Paora Maxwell released a statement saying Ms Hirschfeld had "decided not to accept the newly aligned position of HOD Internal Productions, or to apply for the leadership role of Head of Programming & Production".

He acknowledged Ms Hirschfeld’s "significant contribution to Maori Television" since joining the organisation in 2009.

"Carol’s experience across journalism and production, her instinct for quality programming, and the professional development opportunities staff have benefited from, by working alongside her have resulted in growth throughout Māori Television.

"She is a popular member of the team and will be missed. We wish her every success with the professional challenges she chooses to undertake in the future in her new role with Radio NZ."

Ms Hirschfeld’s final day with Maori TV will be at the end of October.
