Parts of Richmond Primary School in Nelson are cordoned off after a chemical spill.

Six fire crews are on the scene at the school on Cambridge St.

It's believed the chemicals came from the school pool.

Senior station officer Blair Hall from the Richmond Fire Brigade told 3 News one person was taken to hospital following the spill.

While it's still summer holidays for the primary school, the pool has been open for use since last week.
