The sacked principal of Christchurch Girls’ High School is understood to have been permanently reinstated after mediation with the school’s board.

Prue Taylor’s interim reinstatement had already been ordered by the Employment Relations Authority (ERA), but Fairfax reports the board decided to fully reinstate her this week rather than wait for a dismissal hearing scheduled for February. No details of the agreement have so far been released.

Ms Taylor was sacked by the board of trustees on November 2, but the ERA later ruled she had been fired without proper cause.

The dispute led the Ministry of Education to warn that it could get involved.

Today Ms Taylor told Fairfax she is relieved to get her job back.

"It's really good to know I can go back to looking ahead and planning and thinking constructive thoughts and being proactive rather than reactive."

Her lawyer says the outcome of yesterday’s mediation was better than they had hoped for.
