Concern sex workers influence their kids

A South Auckland councillor is concerned some sex workers are exposing their children to the business as they solicit for work on residential streets.

A meeting in Parliament today with police, The Prostitutes' Collective and local body officials will help determine whether or not councils should be able to ban sex workers from troublespots.

John McCracken, chair of the Otara-Papatoetoe local board, says sex workers attract predators to family neighbourhoods - and put their own children at risk.

"We've also had cases where st workers have brought their children out onto the streets and they're with them at night when they are working and they're learning the business that way."

Mr McCracken says when clients can't find a prostitute in the area they target school children and locals heading to work.
