Cook Strait kayak adventure a success

Two Malborough men have completed a kayak crossing of the Cook Strait, raising more than $30,000 for charity in the process.

They set off at 5am on Thursday and completed the crossing in around three and a half hours.

Grant Boyd and Zane Charman decided to complete the adventure to raise money for the Kiwi Can life skills programme in Marlborough, a charity school programme run by the Graeme Dingle Foundation that helps children to learn key life lessons including traits like respect, honesty and reliability.

Mr Boyd says it was a fantastic ride and there were big swells.

"[We] took a few waves over the kayak pretty early on, it didn't bode that well," he says.

"That lasted for about 20 minutes until we got out of the tidal zone and made really great progress across the Strait."

Mr Boyd says the weather was good and they were proud to support the Kiwi Can programme.
