Coping with the post-holiday work blues

Coping with the post-holiday work blues

If you're struggling to get back into work while it seems everyone else is still on holiday, help is at hand.

The sun is shining and it seems half of the country is still on holiday. But all too soon it's over.

If the thought of heading back to work fills you with dread you're not alone.

"It's that change that can happen quite quickly from two or three weeks' holiday, and freedom into back to the routine, back to the same time getting up, going to work," says Judi Clements of the Mental Health Foundation. "So that coming back to work feeling can be a bit of a downer."

The first few days back can be tough. The Mental Health Foundation says we should ease ourselves back into work, organising our work space and thinking of what we want to achieve this year, and making the most of the long summer nights.

"Take your dog for a walk, take your kids on the beach – those things we can all do in the evenings as much as when we're on holiday during the day," says Ms Clements. "So that's a good thing, to ease back into work."

But if you're still depressed about the end of this holiday, it's a great time to start planning the next one.
