Daytime burglaries increase in Invercargill

Police say there has been an increase in the number of daytime burglaries in Invercargill, particularly in the Georgetown and Richmond areas.

On June 3 a witness saw man acting suspicious prior to a burglary occurring. He was described as Maori, approximately 178 cm tall, with a medium build, and a tribal tattoo on his calf.

And, yesterday a witness saw a man acting suspiciously walking out of a relative's driveway.

She questioned the man, who said he lived a few streets down and was looking for his dog, before leaving on foot.

The witness looked around her sister's house and found the back door handle had been jammed down, but not damaged. He did not enter the house and no items appeared to be missing.

The offender was described as Maori, wearing a black cap with a red logo on it, light black hoodie, light jeans and shoes that were dark coloured with green soles.

He looked to be around his early 30s and about 180 cm tall with a medium build.
