The Auckland District Health Board is unable to confirm whether patients will be affected by a major computer problem gripping several hospitals in the Northern region.
A number of DHBs including Auckland, Northland, Waitemata and Counties Manukau are experiencing IT problems with a major network link, chief of intelligence and informatics at ADHB Linda Wakeling says.
In Auckland, computer systems have been restricted at both the Grafton and Greenlane Hospitals.
Non-clinical staff have been asked to log-out as external service providers work to resolve the issue, Ms Wakeling says.
"Every effort has been made to prioritise system capacity for those staff providing direct care to our patients.
"Our top priority, as always, is patient safety."
ADHB spokesman Matthew Rogers says he is not aware of any patients being sent home as a result of the failure.
A spokesperson for Northland DHB confirmed the outage but said patient care had not been compromised and it was still able to access information locally.
In February, a district-wide computer failure at southern hospitals for 36 hours forced hospital staff to resort to paper-based systems. It is currently unclear whether these incidents are related.
