There have been conflicting reports surrounding the missing divers with police investigating reports of two people leaving the water.

However police are also investigating a report that two white 4WD vehicles were parked in the vicinity of Marine Parade on Saturday morning.

Police believe occupants from these vehicles were observed entering the water while a third man waited on land.

They are asking anyone who has been diving, or know family or friends diving in the area today, to contact Southland police on 03 211 0400.
