Justice Helen Winkelmann yesterday ruled in favour of Dotcom suing the Government spy agency after a bungled raid on his Coatesville home last January.
Dotcom’s lawyer, Paul Davison QC, confirmed he would be seeking legal action but that now appears at odds with his client’s stance.
In a tweet to 3 News Political Editor Patrick Gower last night, Dotcom said he had no intention of suing.
“My desire is not to sue the NZ [sic] but to go after US and MPAA studios,” he said.
“I’m most interested in GCSB discovery.”
Mr Davison told 3 News it is a misunderstanding; Mr Dotcom had never planned to sue the Govt for closing down Mega. But, he says, this is different - it’s a breach of the Bill of Rights Act.
The GCSB has admitted it acted illegally when it spied on Dotcom and his associate Bram van der Kolk. The pair are both New Zealand residents and the GCSB is forbidden by law to spy on citizens of residents.
Speaking to National Radio this morning, Mr Davison would not put a dollar figure on the claim.
