Coromandel residents shouldn't dry off just yet - the soggy days are set to continue.

A severe weather watch is in place for the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and around the Coromandel Peninsula.

MetService warns it's the areas that are already wet that will likely be hit the hardest.

"This rain could exacerbate any issues, such as surface flooding and slips," MetService says.

"Streams and rivers are likely to remain high and could rise further for a time."

Heavy rain during the weekend cut off some residents in the Coromandel Peninsula.

A number of slips blocked roads, with highways being flooded and debris cluttering the much of the rest.
