Driver involved in fatal crash pleads not guilty

A tourist driver who is accused of killing a Mouteka motorcyclist last November has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing death.

Wei Kiong Lew, 29, from Singapore appeared in the Dunedin District Court this morning.

He is accused of crossing the centre line on State Highway 1 south of Oamaru and crashing into oncoming motorcyclist Craig Alan Chambers, who died at the scene. Two other vehicles were also involved in the incident.

Mr Chambers, 39, was returning from a weekend at the Burt Munro Challenge.

Lew pleaded not guilty to three charges of careless driving causing injury. He has been remanded on bail until a case review hearing in March.
