Duco and Sky TV fight illegal streamers

Joseph Parker will face off against his heavyweight rival Solomon Haumono on Thursday night, but there'll be another fight happening. The fight against illegal video streamers.

Mr Parker's last fight was downloaded and streamed on social media, where it was viewed more than 100,000 times.

Promoter Duco Events came out swinging, and threatened to sue people caught sharing the event, in particular Facebook user "BeastMoze," whose stream was viewed by thousands.

This time, Duco has worked to parry the live streamers before they get started.  Duco CEO Martin Snedden says Duco has been working with Facebook to block access - although it's been a difficult job.

"What we know is we are never going to be able to close this thing down completely," he told the Crowd Goes Wild radio show.

Sky TV has a few tricks up its sleeve to combat illegal streaming, ahead of the Parker fight. They've moved to a FanPass system, which allows boxing fans to make a one-off payment, rather than sign up to a package deal with Sky TV.

Mr Snedden accepted that the fight against streamers was still in its opening rounds.

"Not totally sure how we're going to get on tomorrow night and not too worried about that because I think what we do is accept it's a bit of trial and error," he said.
