A south Dunedin store sold a winning Lotto Powerball first division ticket last week, which saw the buyers getting a whopping $13.3 million payday.

However, while that sounds like it'd be a pretty big deal for the store, it's actually starting to become the norm.

The owners of the Night 'n Day store on King Edward St had already sold two other first division tickets before Sunday - an incredible feat considering they've only been there since April 2016.

Both of the other successful tickets saw the winners pocket $500,000 each, with the shop responsible for selling three of Dunedin's seven first division-winning tickets this year.

Lotto spokesperson Emilia Mazur said while it was unquestionably an amazing run of luck, it's not unheard of - and certainly not suspicious.

She said while the Dunedin Night 'n Day is the only retailer to have three winners so far in 2016, certain stores have incredible luck every now and again and winning so often is actually fairly common.

Just last year, Greerton Lotto in Tauranga sold five first division winning tickets. That was closely followed by Countdown Pukekohe, which had four, and Eastside Four Square in Wellington, Mitchell's Paper Power in Auckland and Countdown Hornby, with three apiece.

And the Dunedin shop isn't the first to have a flurry of winners in a short period of time either - in August 2013, two Lotto first division tickets were sold in the same draw from Bethlehem Four Square in Tauranga.

To this day, the 'luckiest' Lotto store remains Unichem Stortford Lodge Pharmacy in Hawke's Bay, which has sold 41 winning first division tickets since 1987 - including one in 2016.
