Hundreds of people farewelled Featherston man Glen Jones this afternoon and at the same time, those charged in connection with his death appeared in court.

The five people, charged with aggravated burglary, appeared before a packed courtroom in the Masterton District Court.

Twenty-three-year-old Kristofer Jones, 27-year-old Hayden Ranson and one other man were remanded in custody to reappear on February 7.

Two women who are also charged are seeking bail, but their applications have not been addressed by the court.

At Featherston’s Anzac Hall, hundreds turned up to farewell the local Four Square worker who was beaten in his home last week and died later in hospital.

All five people are accused of entering his home with intent to commit a crime and carrying weapons, believed to be a wooden bat and an axe handle.

Ranson is also facing a charge of aggravated burglary. He handed himself in yesterday after a police hunt.

In court this morning, his supporters called out to him, “you’re doing the right thing, hang in there”.

Police have launched a homicide investigation and say more charges are likely.
