Two women are in hospital with suspected broken bones after the ferry they were travelling on to Waiheke Island was struck by a rogue wave.
The incident happened this morning as Auckland was being pounded by torrential rain.
Explore Ferry operations manager Megan Watson says the company is taking the matter seriously.
An internal investigation into the incident will be conducted, and reports filed by both the skipper and Explore Ferry with Maritime New Zealand.
It took the women around four hours to reach Auckland Hospital due to bad weather.
