Five people have been taken into custody after Otago Lakes-Central Police carried out searches at properties in Wanaka, Queenstown and Alexandra over the past week.

Police executed six search warrants following ongoing investigations into potential drug offenders.

They have now laid charges against the offenders, which range from supplying methamphetamine to possession of cannabis.

Three women and two men aged between 21 and 46 were detained, and will be appearing in Queenstown or Alexandra District Court in the coming days.

Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis hailed the arrests as a great result for Otago residents.

"These arrests will go a long way in preventing drugs from causing more harm to our communities," he said.
