Police have arrested five teens after a long pursuit across West and South Auckland this morning.

The chase began when police responded to a burglary at a Greenhithe liquor shop.

Police nearby spotted a stolen car heading towards the city on the Northwestern motorway.

They pursued it and spiked the tyres.

Despite that, the occupants kept driving, going down the Southwestern motorway in the wrong lane.

The ensuing chase covered Onehunga, Mangere Bridge and Otara, with the occupants of the stolen car throwing bottles of liquor at the pursuing police cars.

The speed of the chase went as slow as 40km/h.

The car was finally blocked by police vehicles after the offenders tried to make a U-turn on the motorway.

Five people aged 15 to 17 were arrested.

Police say the property in the stolen car showed the teens were responsible for the Greenhithe liquor shop burglary.
