Flight lieutenant Alan Mcgregor-Peart flew all over North Africa and Europe as a fighter pilot in 1942 and 1943.
But it was once he moved on to Asia that he said he believed he'd never make it home to New Zealand.
He spoke to Firstline about flying his plane all the way from Cairo to Calcutta.
