Four in hospital after helicopter rolls in Queenstown

Four people have been taken to hospital after a helicopter rolled near Queenstown's Crown Range.

The helicopter is understood to have come into trouble on Mt Sale, a popular site for scenic flights and backcountry skiing. Police believe the machine rolled over in the snow.

The company involved, The Helicopter Line, sent a second chopper to the site following the crash and flew them back to their base, St John Ambulance spokesperson Ian Henderson says. The patients' conditions were unknown, but range from minor to moderate, and one had a leg injury.

The Helicopter Line CEO Jeff Staniland says the only injury he's aware of is a cut knee to one person.

He says it was a sightseeing flight which intended to land on the snow to allow the passengers to take photos, but the machine broke the snow, leading to the accident.
