The man convicted of murdering Christchurch teenager Hayden Miles will have his appeal heard today.

Gavin Gosnell was found guilty of bashing the 15-year-old unconscious, cutting up his body and burying it in two unmarked graves in 2011.

Gosnell admits dismembering the teenager, but denies it was murder. He claims he didn't intend to kill Hayden, and that he should only have been convicted of manslaughter.

Gosnell was sentenced to a minimum non parole period of 18 years in June 2013.
