Two men who were evicted from their Auckland home because their father, the tenancy agreement holder, died are now staying in a motel.

Tommy Tahana's father Thomas died of pancreatic cancer in October.  He had been renting a Tāmaki Housing home in the suburb of Panmure, which the family had been living in for 16 years.

Shortly after Thomas' death, Tāmaki Housing contacted Tommy to say the tenancy agreement had ended and he needed to be out within weeks.

Mr Tahana and his disabled brother Shane were forcefully evicted on Friday and the brothers were forced to sleep on armchairs outside the house.

On Monday night they stayed at a friend's house on a mattress in the lounge.

Auckland Action Against Poverty has been helping the men and on Tuesday afternoon Work and Income put them up in an East Auckland motel as a short-term solution.

Tommy says a stranger has also offered the brothers support after seeing their plight on Newshub.

"A guy who owns a trucking company phoned Auckland Action Against Poverty and offered to move our possessions from outside our house.  He's offered to store them in a container," says Mr Tahana.

The brothers will be staying in the motel for a week to give them time to find a new home.
