Three Christchurch Work and Income offices have received threats to staff this afternoon.

Two separate individuals made threats by phone to the offices in Hornby, Linwood and Sydenham.

Police say there's no risk to the staff or customers; however, all three offices remain closed.

Security guards are guarding the doors at the Hornby office, where a handful of people are waiting outside. Police are no longer on site.

Customer Helen Fleck, who came in from the country for an appointment, called the incident "frustrating and annoying".

Police say they will continue to treat all similar calls with urgency and are "committed to maintaining the safety of the staff".
