Investigation after Wellington bus fires

An investigation is underway into a fire that damaged a number of Wellington buses overnight.

The Fire Service was called to Wellington's Kilbirnie depot just after 2am to find one bus fully alight.

Two buses were damaged in the flames, one of them significantly.

"The second bus has also had some windows blown out and some of the other buses around, they've had windows buckled due to the heat," says NZ Bus chief operations officer Tonia Haskell.

Despite the damage, only one Go Wellington service was disrupted this morning.

"The drivers are all disappointed. You know it's always sad to see one of their iconic Wellington vehicles impacted and they're all a bit sombre here today," says Ms Haskell.

Police and a fire investigator were at the depot today assessing the damage. It's not yet known whether the fire is suspicious.
