Plans are in place for all six schools in Kaikoura to reopen for the first time since the devastating earthquakes on November 14.

Kaikoura Primary Principal Nigel Easson says his school will have a teachers only day on Tuesday.

"We've got a staff only day to get up and running, followed by Wednesday when we'll have an open day which is going to be the mums and dads and boys and girls can pop back to school and have a bit of a chat to us," he says.

"[They can] ask us any questions based around safety, welfare, policies and procedures if a natural [disaster] happens again."

Mr Easson says there has been plenty of support from the education community nationwide.

"Huge amount of community spirit right across the country, how supportive they've been.

"That's been absolutely amazing the amount of emails and gift packages that are coming though.

"It's outstanding how tight-knit our education facility is.

"We're trying to get it back to normal as normal could be."

Kaikoura's schools are expected to reopen fully for the first time on Thursday.
